Helical Gear Limited Slip Differential for 500/595/695 Abarth 1.4 Turbo - Compatible with C510 5-Speed Gearbox
Enhance Your Drive with Blackline Helical LSDs
The Blackline Helical Limited Slip Differentials (LSDs) are designed to distribute torque differentially, favouring the wheel with superior traction. This ingenious design not only boosts performance and drivability, particularly in low-grip scenarios but also proves invaluable in enhancing driving experiences.
Functionality of the Helical Gearing System
The Blackline Helical LSDs utilise a helical gear mechanism to manage friction distribution within the differential. As torque is applied to the helical gear system, it generates a force that presses the gear into the differential housing, thereby generating friction. Under increased torque conditions, the thrust force escalates in direct proportion to the applied torque. Consequently, the Blackline LSD adeptly handles substantial traction imbalances, even during high-power instances like powering out of a corner. On the flip side, the LSD operates quietly and smoothly during low-torque situations, making it perfectly suitable for everyday road use.
Optimised Design and Benefits
Engineered with a parallel axis helical geared configuration, the Blackline LSDs ensure even load distribution. They feature a 5:1 torque bias, signifying that if one wheel loses traction, the grip-rich wheel can receive up to five times the torque of the slipping wheel. However, even with this ratio, the LSDs operate optimally when both wheels maintain some level of traction. In real-world scenarios, this is typically not an issue, given the inherent drag on the slipping wheel. Nevertheless, experienced drivers can skilfully utilise left-foot braking to partially lock the spinning wheel.
The integration of modern anti-lock braking systems with helical LSDs yields exceptional results.
Key Benefits:
- Equal rotational speed to both wheels
- Torque distribution based on available traction
- Minimal servicing compared to plate-type LSDs
- Low operational noise
- Controlled power delivery during launches and drifting maneuvers
- Gradual and controlled engagement
- Enhanced vehicle control
- Thoughtfully designed gear teeth and effective oil distribution
- Constructed from robust 8620 material
- Direct replacement for stock differentials
A Torque Biasing Helical Gear LSD is a preferable option for road driving as it imparts minimal side effects during normal driving conditions, unlike plate-type LSDs that continually resist varying wheel speeds during corners. There is no need for specialised oil, but it's recommended to change the axle oil after the initial 500 miles, as some debris might arise initially, which is normal and diminishes with usage.
Please Note: This is not a plate-type, viscous coupling, or clutch pack LSD.
